This past June, Christina contacted me for her senior session. Let me tell you something about Christina- she’s hilarious. She has personality for days. She describes herself as “Kind-hearted, giving, and considerate”, all admirable traits. Christina and I discussed the locations for her session, she had one place near and dear to her heart, the ranch where she grew up. The ranch was her first choice, the old East Coulee bridge, her second. Christina also had another request- photos with her beloved horse. I was more than happy to oblige- a ranch, a horse, and a gorgeous girl? What’s not to love! Christina’s session stayed true to who she is at heart, in her words “I wanted to stay true to who I was, laid back and classy”, and she did just that. Adorned in jeans, and a a sweater that made her eyes pop, she stole the show. Her only accessory a special hat. “I chose a cowboy hat that belonged to my great-grandfather who passed away, it holds sentimental value” said Christina, of the single accessory she choose. Christina’s only concern for the day; “The weather, but the mood set was so cool!” she said of the over cast day we shot her session on. The soft grey clouds that covered the sky created fabulous lighting for her session.  As we traipsed around the ranch shooting her portraits, Christina got more and more comfortable in front of my camera, the conversation flowed, and she shined. We even hopped in the truck and took a tour through the cow field down to the river where we found a serene landscape that any Drumhellion knows all too well.

Christina took her session a step further by putting on her amazing graduation dress for the second half of her session. Her dress, oh her dress! It. Was. Fabulous. It was shiny, and flow-y, it sparkled. You just have to see it to believe it. A special dress, a special young woman, and of course, a special horse. It was perfect.

Christina has some advise for the seniors considering, or that have booked a session for the 2014/2015 school year- “Let loose! Have fun with it!”.

As Christina goes off to Lakeland college, where she’s starting her studies to become a veterinary medical assistant, I wish her the very best of luck in her studies, and this next big step. Congratulations Christina! Always follow your heart, and your dreams.

Now, who’s ready to see all the gorgeousness you’ve just been reading about…

For those of you that follow my MMBL Facebook page, from time to time you see that I put out model calls. Model calls are fabulous tools for photographers when they want to try something new- a new editing technique, new posing, a new lens or camera, or to build their portfolio when they are looking to expand their genre.

Currently, I am looking for several different models for various upcoming projects. Most sessions are on a TFD (trade for digital) basis. The model, or their family if the model is under age, will be provided an online gallery from which to select 7 digital images from in trade for their participation in these sessions. A print release will also be given. All sessions must be accompanied by a signed Client Service Agreement, as well as a Model Release. All sessions will be used for marketing and promotional purposes including, but not limited too, print, online, websites, blogs. If any one of the below listings intrigues you, my e-mail can be found at the end of the post.

1 female model 18-35 for session in Calgary, Alberta. Session will take place in the downtown region of the city. Model will be provided with one outfit including skirt, top, and shoes. Model will be responsible for styling their own hair and make-up application. If model resides within 30km’s of Drumheller, transportation will be provided. This is a TFD session.

1 female model 18-35 for session in Hanna, Alberta. This session is pending permission at the historical site. Model and myself will work together to select pieces from models wardrobe for the session. Model will be responsible for styling their own hair and make-up application. If model resides within 30km’s of Drumheller, transportation will be provided. This is a TFD session.

3 male or female tween models (11-15). These sessions are to build my tween portfolio. The tween and I, under the supervision of a parent, will work together to select outfits for these sessions. Parents will be responsible for hair styling and make-up application. These sessions are being offered at no cost to residents within 30km’s of Drumheller. Outside that area will incur a travel fee. This is a TFD session.

3 male or female senior high students graduating in 2015.  These sessions are to build my senior portfolio and are being offered at $75 a session, and include 2 outfit changes, 2 locations, 7 digital images with print release, and 25% off add’tl prints, digitals, albums and materials.. These sessions are limited to seniors within 100km’s of Drumheller.

Anyone interested in any of the openings can e-mail me at models@memorablemomentsbylindsey.com, with the position in the title. Please accompany the e-mail with a recent photo of yourself, and your contact information.

I can’t wait to get you in front of my lens!

When James was shopping for a family photographer, I was over the moon when he asked me to officially photograph his family. As long time friend, I jumped at the chance to spend the afternoon with his bunch of hooligans. When I look at this family, I see what love looks like. James’ wife, Amberlee and I decided on the hamlet of Rowley, because, as Amberlee puts it “of the unique settings inside the town which made for awesome backdrops”. Scheduling a session with this bunch proved difficult as they often bear a hectic schedule, with 5 kids, and a career in Health and Safety, it’s no wonder we had trouble nailing down a date. But on a very cold day in mid-November we waded through the snow to capture the smiles of the Swayda bunch. Antoine, a comic book junkie; Gabriel, an avid bicycle rider; Hunter, the  football star; Harrison the breakout baseball player, and little 7 month old Lily, who now at 15 months loves to dance and kiss all over her big brothers. Truth be told, it wasn’t very hard to get smiles out of these guys. The trick? Gummy treats. Even James was thrilled with the idea of trading gummy treats for smiles. Amberlee recommends every family come prepared with gummy treats to trade for smiles with the kids. We kept their session casual, because that’s the Swayda style. We also kept it moving quick because I’m really not kidding when I say it was cold! When we were all wrapped up for the day, I asked Amberlee what her favourite part of their session had been. Her response tickled my heart-strings, “We enjoyed the session because it was time spent together.”

I only had one request for a photo, and that photo came from James. He asked that one photo be edited in a “sepia tone”. Now, sepia toned photos are not my style, but I obliged his request. I waded through all the photos we had taken that day, and I picked the one I thought James would appreciate the most in his sepia tone. Not only did he appreciate it, he made it his Facebook profile picture!

Meet Mike and Carla, and their daughters Marina, Kaitlyn and Lindsey. Mike and Carla are the incredibly proud grandparents of Lena, who’s adorable session can be found here. Mike and Carla are very dear to my heart- they were the first people outside of my friends or acquaintance circle to give me a shot with my photography. So when Carla was the winner of a”Best of the Worst” contest, showcasing the best of the worst photos from back in the day, I was over the moon to work with this fun bunch for the third time. We took the show on the road, as they say, to the hamlet of Rowley. If you haven’t been there, it’s an adorable little hamlet complete with authentic old school grain bins, an old little bank, an old funeral parlour, a saloon, train car, and train station. It’s really quite pretty in the fall, and the perfect place for a fall photo session. The fall colors were out in full force, the sky was bright and clear. Carla’s personality was out in full force- and that means a laugh a minute was to be had. Mike and Carla’s girls each have their own unique personalities, and each personality is as big as their mother’s. By big, I mean huge. It’s fabulous. At one point, the girls happily followed me to an adorable little bridge for a shot, where immediately Marina and Lindsey kicked off their shoes. Something as small as kicking off your shows your personality. Carla had the big idea for their last shot to include their contest winning shot. I had to agree with her that it was the perfect flair to end the day. To my surprise, the Mellers’ weren’t finished with me-  after our laid back, fun session, Mike and Carla were kind enough to insist I accompany them to dinner with the whole family.  Their kindness never ceases to amaze me.
