When I found the wonderful Zaynah on Facebook, I was thrilled when she agreed to meet with me to hear about the Senior Rep program I offer. I was over-the-moon when she signed on as a rep for the 2014/2015 school year for the Drumheller Valley Secondary School.
Zaynah’s interests and activities are many- she plays volleyball competitively year round, attending clinics around the province, and has been the captain of her team this year. She has also discovered a newfound love for rugby. Motocross plays a big part in her life. Having rode since she was a girl, Zaynah can often be found at the DORVA track, flying high in the sky on her dirt bike. Zaynah passes many hours riding the horses her family owns, as well as playing with the dogs, and may other animals on her family’s farm.
Zaynah is also very active in her school- she is part of the student council, and an avid supporter and participant in the schools ‘Friends of Rachel’ program, helping to motivate, educate and bring positive change to the young people in her school. ‘Friends of Rachel’ urges students to practice compassion and kindness to stem school violence. More information about the ‘Friends Of Rachel’ clubs and programs can be found here. Zaynah also donates her time to a local charity, ‘The Morgan Jayne Project’, raising money through various fundraisers and activities. ‘The Morgan Jayne Project’ is a non-profit, non-denominational, staffed by volunteers, organization devoted to fighting the AIDS epidemic in Roatan, Honduras. Their major focus is on reducing the incidence of mother to child transmission of the virus both at birth and via breast milk. More about ‘The Morgan Jayne Project’ can be found here.
Zaynah’s headed off to college to receive her practical nursing diploma once she graduates, and has already received an early admission into Red Deer College.. Once her degree is complete, she will move on to further education to become a Registered Nurse.
When we started to plan Zaynah’s experience, she immediately said she wanted to host the session on her family’s farm. “I chose my farm, because that’s where I grew up and looking back at the pictures it will be a real reflection of my senior year.”
I originally asked her to describe her style, she replied “My style can range from a hipster look with leggings, baggy pullover’s and infinity knit scarfs; to very country with jeans, hoodies, bass pro hats, cowboy hats, my big belt buckles, plaid button ups – and of course my favorite, my cowboy boots.” True to her style, we captured her just like that, long sweaters and leggings, blue jeans and a sweater, and her true cowgirl style, complete with her cowgirl hat.
Zaynah’s biggest concern is that she would look and feel awkward. “I was worried that things would be awkward, but it didn’t take long to get over that!”
Her advise for anyone preparing to have their senior portrait experience is “Bring things that reflect who you are and how you really would dress. And have lots of ideas because Lindsey could for sure make them come to life! Memorable Moments By Lindsey is a great company to get your photos done by. She listens to what you want and has great advice on how to make the pictures look great.”
When Zaynah was asked to describe her overall experience, she enthusiastically replied “It was great! Everything that I wanted came to life! I was shown good ways to stand, sit and position myself so that I didn’t look awkward, stiff or out-of-place. I felt a little awkward at the beginning but it took no time to warm up to the camera with Lindsey behind it. The images turned out amazing, me and all of my friends loved them!”
I had a blast with Zaynah capturing her images- and these are just the beginning. These images were captured for her senior rep materials. As a senior rep, Zaynah will also receive a full 2 hour session in the spring. So just when you thought it couldn’t get better, oh yes, it sure does. Take a peek at the gorgeousness we created, and don’t forget to head up to the ‘Subscribe’ button to be in-the-know when her full senior photo session hits the blog in May.
